Riverlution is the natural evolutionary flow of the universe, operating at both a spiritual and physical level. We can find it in the creation of stars and the rhythm of our own lives. It also guides the progress of the peoples of this planet, to fulfil our highest destiny.
Every person, every people or nation, has something unique to contribute to the evolution of humankind. To give of our best, whether as an individual or country, we must learn to listen to this flow, this calling of the Spirit. We may be asked to take on new challenges, embrace a new understanding, sail in unchartered waters. At this time we are facing the need to change our relationship with nature, which for centuries we have taken for granted, to meet the challenge of environmental pollution and climate change. This goes hand in hand with being asked to go beyond our national, ethnic, ideological or religious identities and see ourselves first and foremost as fellow human beings. This is part of a yet greater change, where we come to recognise the great truth of our universe: that everything is connected. We experience for ourselves the oneness of creation. We are truly on the threshold of a great riverlutionary step forward.
Managing riverlution
We can manage this evolutionary progress so we take everyone with us as far as is possible. As it explains in the book, Riverlution: Going with the flow of personal & planetary change.
"The task of government and society is to keep it within the boundaries of the great river’s course through mutual respect and understanding. These are the banks that contain the river and stop it from flooding and causing damage. It means that Riverlution can take place peacefully and constructively."
In every society there will be visionaries who light the way forward; others will evolve more slowly and will need explanation, encouragement and leadership; a few will resist change altogether and even try to turn the clock back. In open democratic societies, this process can be managed more or less smoothly. Authoritarian regimes may seek to prevent progress, and suppress the legitimate aspirations of the people. Here the natural flow is blocked and sooner or later the dam will burst, causing great upheaval and destruction. Dictatorships may seek to force the pace of change which can be equally oppressive and ultimately counter-productive. An example of both can be seen in 20th century Russia, which experienced both the extremes of reaction under the Czars and revolution under Stalin. This is explored in our book, Riverlution.
Working with the ebb and flow
Building on this understanding, we can bring ourselves up to the present day. Here we see in world events there is an ebb and flow in humanity’s progress. Riverlution is not necessarily a steady, linear process, but like the course of a river will sometimes flow faster, sometimes slower, with many eddies and cross currents. The tide of riverlution is irresistible, but like the tide itself, after each wave sweeps up the beach, there is a backwash, as the wave retreats – until a new wave arrives. At the time of writing, we can see reactionary forces at work in different parts of the world, trying to divide humanity, seeking to oppress womankind, denying truth and reason a voice. If we are in the middle of all this, it can feel disheartening. We can imagine everything is going wrong, that humanity is going backwards. We should not be discouraged. Living through the backwash carries with it the promise of the next wave of progress, which will come in its own time. Riverlution can be delayed but it cannot be denied. Enlightenment is inevitable.
