“There is a river that runs through life.
And if we follow its course it will take us to our highest destiny...”
As these first lines of Riverlution suggest, our lives have a flow that we can choose to follow. Rather than passively drifting through life, we can learn how to go with the universal flow with awareness and creativity. We can see this flow, this river, in many ways as our natural evolution, the path of the Spirit’s plan for us. This is riverlution, the inevitable and irresistible force in the Universe.
How do we find our course?
We need to find the right course for ourselves. If we give ourselves the space to be silent, we can listen to our inner voice. The more we trust our inner voice, the more we are guided along the course of our own inner river. We don’t always know where our inner river will guide us, but as a river flows, so must we be open to the way before us. For following the river is an act of faith. The more we are prepared to let go and trust, the more it can silently yet powerfully guide our lives.
How do we connect with the flow?
We do not know what is around the bend. Like a mystery unfolding before us, the river takes us to unexpected places. If we surrender to this mystery, if we are open to new experiences, the power of the Spirit will free us. This is the paradox of riverlution. It may seem like an abdication of our responsibilities or an act of madness, but it is not. Nor does it mean that we relinquish our free will. Because it is our river, part of our soul, part of who we are. And by choosing to connect to it and actively participate in our lives, we let the light in.
Living with the flow
Surrendering to the Spirit doesn’t mean we should not make plans. But life can bring us twists and turns. To advance in our spiritual quest, at some point we need to let go of carefully laid plans and put our trust in the flow of the river. We can resist the flow, but we cannot hold back its current forever. We need to go with it – creatively and purposefully.
Our lives ebb and flow. At times we are more outgoing and creative; at other times we may feel the need to be quieter. Sometimes we experience growth; other times we endure upheaval. We need to learn to go with where the flow is taking us. By following the everchanging flow of our inner river, by being awake to where riverlution is guiding us, we can reach our highest destiny.
The challenge of going with the flow
It is not easy to abandon control and embrace the flow, but this act of faith will awaken the Spirit in us. We need not flee from challenges but accept them, learn from them and move on. Then we are no longer be at the mercy of events but rather able flow through them. By following the flow of our riverlution we can fulfil our soul purpose. This is when the Spirit can really begin to work through us and shine freely in our lives.
